I’ve been wanting to write this for so long but finding the time is so much more challenging now. Chanel’s Edit is meant to be a series so you will see much more of these in the near future.
I find myself working on the blog late at night after I put Colette to sleep for the evening which is right around 11pm or 12am. A new system has to be developed. So funny and crazy to think I would talk so much about eating/sleep schedules and poopy diapers. Another thing that people failed to mention to me was the likelihood of a newborn having tummy issues. Luckily we are doing much better in that area. Here are some things I’ve been doing and what’s on my mind.
The War in Ukraine
I can’t put into words how sad I am about what’s going on. My heart goes out to the Ukrainian people and their country that are fighting for their land and democracy in this unjustifiable war. Growing up in school you learn about war, but did you think you would ever have to live through one like this? Now with social media what is happening in Ukraine feels much more real, raw, and personal. You are no longer just turning pages in a text book or watching old video footage from a news station or documentary.
The power of the people to defend what is right has really come through in amazing ways. The Ukrainian people are resilient for defending their country at all costs. The Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, is a hero for staying in his country and fighting with his people. Supporting nations are helping as much as they can. Some might argue that more should be done but it’s all going in the right direction, in my opinion.
I have been glued to the television and my phone watching the latest developments. To the point I’ve had to delete Twitter because it was getting to be too much. As someone who once wanted to be a journalist, I accept that I can get too wrapped up in the news and consume it for too long. I’ve had a few questions about Ukraine’s status with NATO and why it is not part of it, here is a good article that explains it (if it were part of it supporting countries would have to help in more direct ways).
I chose the picture above because sunflowers are the national flower of Ukraine. I hope one day soon the fields of sunflowers in Ukraine can bloom in a peaceful country with its courages people, putting this horrible war behind us. I pray things resolve quickly and peace and democracy prevail.
Supporting the Ukrainian People and Brands
People have come together using their power for real purpose, supporting and aiding Ukrainian refugees. I wanted to share two organizations you can look into and donate to:
BStrong Initiatives (Bethenny Frankle in partnership with GEM)
Here are 6 Ukrainian fashion brands to know about that you can also support.
Shows I’ve been loving lately
Transitioning to something a little lighter, I’ve been watching a lot more television lately. It helps to keep me entertained when I’m feeding Colette in the living room. A few shows I’ve watched lately that I liked are the following:
Just Like That: I know this show was not loved by many but I really enjoyed it. I thought it was refreshing to see the characters grow and change, as we all grow and change too. However, I was not a huge fan of all the storylines. The documentary at the end also gave it more color and why certain things happened in the show. It made me like it even more, especially how they got many of Carrie’s fashion looks. I really enjoyed the song played in the last episode when Carrie goes to Paris. I have it as a favorite on Spotify, it’s called Hello It’s Me by Todd Rungren.
Gilded Age: Ever since I finished Downton Abbey and Bridgerton I’ve been wanting another show to binge that was in the historical drama theme. I’ve only watched a few episodes because I really want to binge it a la Netflix. It’s been picked up for a second season so I see this being around for a while which makes me happy!
Ozark: Finally coming to an end. The first part of the final season is now streaming and it’s such an addicting show. I highly recommend it and usually these type of shows are not my cup of tea.
Inventing Anna: Based on a true story about Anna Delvey (real name is actually Anna Sorokin) who tricked a lot of high profiled people in Manhattan was very entertaining. Fun fact: I was part of the background in that show. You don’t get to see me but it was fun to be part of it (just my arm comes out). We filmed at Del Posto in NYC, the scene when she’s at a dinner and they play credit card roulette.
Not all diapers are created equal
I’ve tried three brands of diapers. Pampers Swaddlers, Huggies Special Delivery, and Coterie. I am a huge fan of Coterie but when doing the math it was just too much per diaper. Colette uses too many of them, lol (you can buy Coterie at Whole Foods now if you wish to try them out)! Huggies Special Delivery just doesn’t work for our little lady, she has definitely had some leak episodes. That leaves us with Pampers Swaddlers as the winner. They are really good especially for the price.
When chatting with my friends Pampers Swaddlers was the most popular. The second one was diapers by Honest. I may try them down the road but I do like the simplicity of a white diaper in terms of design. Keep in mind that every baby is different, what works for my baby may not work for your baby. I highly recommend getting the smaller boxes to test which one you like most. In terms of wipes, Wet Wipes are the ones I’ve been using and have worked well.
This is it for now, until next time!
