Chanel’s Edit: October 2, 2024

I picked up some lovely dahlias in the most beautiful purple color and and whipped up a pot of chili, and now I feel I’m officially in full-on fall mode. I thought I had all my back-to-school shopping in a good place and this week it’s been a scramble trying to get Colette what she will need for fall and winter (like coats and boots). I’ve learned from previous years that things sell out for these little ones. Have you heard about the cottage cheese trend lately? Read all about these things below!

A Few Things On My Mind

A Pot Of Chili

Chili has always been synonymous with fall for me. I love making it and it’s so comforting during these crisp autumn days. I’m a huge fan of NYT Cooking (I have the app, and yes you have to pay for it but it’s worth it) and I recently made this recipe. I did some small modifications like cooking one pound of ground turkey vs. two. It was delicious. Even Colette liked it which is always a relief for me. The goal is to make one meal for all of us, and we are slowly getting there!

Apilco Lion’s Head Porcelain Soup Bowl

You all know I love french cooking, and these lions head soup bowls are a staple in anyone’s kitchen who is serious about cooking. A dozen websites will have a version of them, ours are from here. I decided not to get them with lids because they seemed useless for our lifestyle but if you entertain a ton it may be fun. Now that soup season is upon us they would be perfect for your dish collection.

The Obsession with Cottage Cheese

There is a huge obsession with cottage cheese right now. It’s amusing to see how many people are posting all kinds of recipes with it. I’ve definitely jumped on that bandwagon and have been enjoying it quite a bit! It’s popularity can be credited to it being high in protein and low in calories. It’s also very versatile. I have been loving it on rice crackers with a tiny bit of jam on top or some fresh fruit. I mixed it in my scrambled eggs and it was great. This is a good article on Vogue about it, and yes it’s good for you!

Back-To-School Toddler Things

Lately, I’ve found myself irresistibly drawn to toddler clothing—it’s almost an addiction! I adore the classic styles for little ones, though I often find them to be quite pricey, particularly when it comes to European brands. I simply can’t fathom spending over $200 on a dress, even if it’s for a special occasion (Colette’s baptism dress was the exception). As she gets older things will change a bit but for now I like to search high and low for the best deals. Some of my favorite stores for back-to-school have been Zara, H&M, Mango, and Target. Cecil and Lou has very cute things too, I love their pajamas and gowns. They have the cutest stuff and you won’t be so disappointed if they destroy them. I should probably write a whole post about this.

Audio Book Patchett

I realized in order to get through more books I need to start listening to them. I drive quite a lot and get so tired of music and podcasts, having an audiobook playing in the car is a nice change of scenery. I am on chapter 8 of Ann Patchett’s latest book, Tom Lake. It’s a sweet story of a mom who revisits a vibrant part of her life, and tells it to her three older daughters. It helps Meryl Streep narrates the story, I find her voice so soothing. So far I give it a 7/10. It’s dragging a bit but I started it so I must finish it! I do love Ann Patchett, I have read Commonwealth and it was great. and did you know she owns a bookstore in Nashville?

Here’s my insta if we haven’t connected on the app yet! Thank you for being here.
