Why You Need the Classic French Beret
If you love French style like me, then you must know that a classic French beret hat is a staple in every woman’s wardrobe. Berets have a rich history in France, going back to the 1800s. The military beret was once widely used across the country. In today’s culture, berets are a symbol of classic French style. Regardless of the history, I’m sure we can all agree that the French beret is the best of the hats from France.
Although berets first became popular in France, they quickly became a staple in women’s fashion in the United States. The red beret I am wearing in this photo (made from 100% wool) is from Free People. Thankfully, they seem to have it in stock every year. I love all colors, but my favorites are the red beret and the classic black beret.
I remember buying this classic wool French beret for my last trip to Paris and wearing it throughout. It made me feel very Parisian, even if it’s seen as a cliche by some.
You can see the beret effect in the world of celebrities and film, most recently on the hit Netflix series, Emily in Paris.

Adding the Classic French Beret To Your Wardrobe
French berets come in many different materials but my favorite version will always be the wool berets. Wool is generally very warm so these berets are the perfect winter hats for your winter wardrobe!
The great thing about a beret is its versatility. You can dress it up or dress it down. It will always add that special touch to your overall look. One of my favorite ways to wear a beret is with a long tailored coat. It also pairs great with jeans and a white top or tweed blazer.
This leopard print beret from AQUA is one of my current favorites. You can’t beat the price at only $58 and it adds a bit of visual interest to every winter outfit. Click here to view it!
